CrossFit and the road to fitness has been a funny path for this mother ninja. Along the way, I’ve not only learned how to get the most out of my training, but also how to juggle the joys and demands of motherhood with everything else – and how taking care of myself is just as important as taking care of my kids.
I’m part of a large family that has done and coached CrossFit since just after its inception in Santa Cruz, Calif. Before that, I was a competitive soccer player, runner and rock climber. But CrossFit challenged me in ways I hadn’t felt before. I remember driving to the gym praying I could get through the workout – and then hoping to get out the door before my son started losing it. My life was crazy-busy at that time. Still, I was learning that the workout would actually help me manage the chaos.
Prior to opening CrossFit LOFT I spent nearly 5 years coaching some incredible people at Jet City CrossFit (my family’s gym in Georgetown). Teaching has become a passion for me. I love connecting with clients, and I work hard to communicate well with everyone: children and grandmothers; “non-athletes” and competitive team members.
I love seeing the changes in our clients. Hopefully, I can help you get past some hurdles, avoid some pitfalls, and work through challenges to become stronger in every way.
As for me, my life is still busy, of course. I have two kids now, but I feel more balanced, strong and energetic than ever before. I’m addicted to this community and the change it can precipitate. I’m loving my life as mom. And I know I will be able to keep up with my son and baby girl for many years to come, because I’m taking care of myself.

I LOVE CROSSFIT! I dream about it, talk about it at dinner every night, and bore strangers with it daily. I think that everybody should CrossFit, probably because it has had such a profound impact on my life.
As a sprinter in college, I knew how to do two things: run in a straight line and run around a curve. I went on to run marathons and learned how to run up and down hills in the rain for hours and hours. Now, I am a two-time Crossfit Games competitor (2012, 2013) and I know how to be good at life. I have confidence in myself to dominate any challenge set before me.
In my other life, I am a Certified Athletic Trainer (the person with the really cool fanny pack who runs out on the field when someone gets hurt during sporting events) and Physical Therapist Assistant. I love making a difference in young adults lives both on and off the playing field. I believe that positive role models are vital for teenagers, and I enjoy being in their lives.
Coaching CrossFit is my passion! I am so excited to use my skill set and experience to help you exceed and dominate your goals.

After having a powerful life changing experience of losing 70 lbs with CrossFit I became committed helping others in their own personal fitness journey. I am obsessive about human movement, nutrition, and helping people to reach their full potential as healthy thriving individuals. Having over two decades of experience in the strength and conditioning world plus being former competitive swimmer gives me a deep background to pull from to teach others. Competing in Strongman shows for fun is another passion of mine. I love incorporating strongman elements into regular training for everyone. It is super fun and incredibly functional. You don’t need to be an Icelandic giant to enjoy strongman!
In a former life I was chef/sushi chef and enjoy cooking up a storm with my wife and our son. I still break out my chef skills for our community potlucks and parties!

I started CrossFit in 2007, just after finishing the Seattle Fire Academy. Before that, my conditioning mostly involved going for long runs and some moderate lifting. Initially, I didn’t trust that a four-minute CrossFit-style workout would get me in any kind of shape. Now I know that it can. Today, in my 30s, I am stronger and fitter than ever before, and feel I am staying in shape for firefighting through CrossFit.
I grew up in Lake Quinault, a small logging town on the Olympic Peninsula. I participated in all of the sports my little school offered (volleyball, basketball and track,) and lifted some weights. Once I graduated, I walked onto the University of Washington crew team, where I rowed for a year. I also played a couple seasons of basketball at a small community college because I truly loved the sport and missed being a part of a team.
After college, I ran a few marathons and half-marathons, but it wasn’t until I found CrossFit that I felt like I was back on a team and actually getting fitter and stronger. After about a year, I started signing up for some local competitions, and in 2011, 2012 and 2013 I was a member of the Jet City CrossFit team that competed at the CrossFit Games.
I genuinely love being a coach and the Loft community is extremely encouraging and welcoming. I honestly believeCrossFit is for everyone – I even recommended it to my mom! Whether you are looking to compete or just looking to get into shape, there is a p
lace for everyone here at the Loft – including my dog, Huckleberry, who I usually have in tow!

I started CrossFit in 2004 and have gotten stronger and fitter every year since. It started after breaking my fibula playing rugby for UC Davis; I realized if I was to continue playing at a high level I needed to get bigger, faster and stronger. I began obsessively researching strength and conditioning programs and when I stumbled onto CrossFit (one of my team mates from Santa Cruz who was an All American mentioned it to me) it was as if something clicked in my head, everything made perfect sense. It took the best ideas from everything else I had been researching and put them all together.
I have been CrossFitting ever since and the perfectionist in me continues to research other strength and conditioning programs so I can keep stealing all of their best ideas and mold it into ours. I believe this is the true genius of CrossFit; it is all about pursuing functionality using whatever works and dropping what doesn’t. What that means is I am not limited to some trendy fitness fad. CrossFit not only allows but encourages change and adaptation to the program. We continually evolve and improve as we learn. This method has served me well over the years as I have now competed in the CrossFit Games 4 times, once as an individual and for the past 3 years as the Coach and Captain of the Jet City CrossFit Team. Over the years I have coached around 20 athletes who have competed at the CrossFit Games.
Along with CrossFit I have a broad background in sport. I played rugby in high school, college, a season in New Zealand and another in Australia, as well as a little in the USA Super League. I worked in the endurance sports world for 6 years while competing in countless triathlons, running and cycling events. I was also first exposed to Olympic lifting in the late ‘90s when my dad would take me to the Sacramento State Olympic Lifting Club to get lessons. CrossFit made me a better rugby player, a faster triathlete, and a stronger Olympic lifter.
My obsessive nature has given me an insatiable thirst for knowledge related to how the human body moves. As such, when I am not scheming up new workouts, the rest of my waking hours are devoted to working on my doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Washington.
