First things first, CrossFit is for anyone! Second, CrossFit will make you feel better and more capable in your daily life tasks. So if you garden, hike, walk, pick up your kids, carry groceries, sit at a desk all day…. you get the idea… CrossFit is for all of us. CrossFit is a group training program that gives you a real bang for your fitness buck. It’s highly effective, and is used by everyone from members of the armed forces to soccer moms and dads; from professional athletes to grandparents.

It’s also efficient. We don’t spend our time doing isolated movements that work a single muscle group. This is a full-body deal, geared towards functional fitness. What is functional fitness? Straight from the Mayo Clinic: While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability. For example, a squat is a functional exercise because it trains the muscles used when you rise up and down from a chair or pick up low objects.

Usually, you’ll start seeing results in a few weeks. Stick with it, and you’ll really see the benefits!

Our workouts will improve your cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, even though we don’t do typical “cardio.” You’ll gain strength and power and flexibility. You’ll notice improvements in your coordination, balance and agility.  Really, it’s your whole physical system. But the benefits aren’t just physical. We believe getting fit works its magic on the mind, too. Seriously. Just ask our members. This is not your average gym. Every class is structured. Think of it like small group personal training. Every class is led  by an experienced instructor, whom will follow the following class outline all in under 60 minutes!

Common FAQs

I’m nervous. Am I going to be able to do this?

Don’t worry! Every CrossFit gym has a different culture. The Loft community is inviting, supportive, and comforting. We check our ego at the door and welcome all members with respect. Also, our focus is on form and mechanics. This means you’ll stay safe! We will encourage you, but we won’t push you too far, too fast. With great trainers and workouts, CrossFit is beneficial for just about anyone. All you need is the right attitude and an open mind. Commit, be accountable, create new habits. The rest will follow.

OK, I’m game! How do I start?

I have an injury. Is CrossFit safe for me?
Tell us where it hurts. We’re experienced at making adjustments that allow just about everyone to participate. We’ve helped many clients work around nagging old injuries. Just make sure to fully disclose your concerns before class.

But I don’t know the lingo?
Don’t worry, we’ll teach you what you need to know. For starters, WOD is an abbreviation for Workout Of the Day. What that means is we mix things up, so you’ll do something different every day. It keeps you motivated, and you won’t get bored.

How long is a typical class?
Classes are 60 minutes from start to finish.

Is there an initiation fee? Or a long-term contract?
Nope! Memberships are monthly and billed on your start date. We can upgrade, downgrade or cancel your account with 48 hours written (email) notice. In addition we can put your account on hold if you will be out of town for an extended period of time. More detailed information about memberships here.

Why are there different level classes (beginner/intermediate/advanced)?
That’s part of what sets us apart. Splitting our classes into different levels allows us to coach you appropriately, whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced athlete. Participating in the class that’s right for your skills and athletic abilities means you’ll learn more, you’ll feel more comfortable, and you’ll get better results.

We’ve found this strategy allows every client to be more successful over the long-term – which is what we’re all about: helping you make changes over time in an effective and safe way.

What kind of equipment do you use?
You won’t find fancy machines or elliptical trainers or mirrors at our gym. You will find pull up bars, gymnastics rings, barbells, tires, kettle bells, climbing ropes, and medicine balls, among other toys. We’ll teach you how to use them all. We believe that’s part of what sets CrossFit apart. Machines operate in a static plane – which is not the way the body moves in real life. Machines rob you of properly developing the smaller stabilizing muscles. Our training methods allow your body to move as it’s supposed to and develop stability and true strength.

I’m in really great shape. Can I just jump into regular classes?
Not quite yet. We’ll still need you to sign up for a baseline workout and fitness evaluation and make sure you understand the movements. We’ve found this approach is beneficial for everyone. I’ve been CrossFitting for days/months/years. Can I just jump in?
Yes, of course.  But we still need you to communicate with us! Shoot us an email or give the gym a call at 206.557.4748. If you are checking us out your first class is free.

Do you have childcare?
Childcare is do-it-yourself here. We have a lounge area with a TV and couch but it is up to you to supervise your children. If you are interested in parent/tot classes, please contact us.

Do you have showers?
Not at this time.

Where do I park?
There is generally good street parking on California and the surrounding side streets. Please respect our neighbors at the dentist’s office, residential homes and Holy Rosary. Do not park in their parking spots unless outside of their business hours.
